5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Virginia

The U.S. Geological Society is reporting that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake has hit Virginia.

The depth of the earthquake is about 0.6 miles, and was located approx. 41 miles NW of Richmond, VA and 83 miles SW of Washington, D.C.

There have been reports of people feeling the tremors all across the East Coast – as far south as Charlotte, NC, which is about 290 miles southwest of the epicenter of the earthquake, and as far north as New York City, Boston and Toronto.

This has been a busy day for seismic activity in the United States, as a 5.3 magnitude quake was felt in Colorado earlier in the day.
