Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea

While Papua New Guinea is a remote island nation, it is still home to almost 7 million people.

Papua New Guinea is located in an area of high earthquake and volcano activity, known as the “Ring of Fire,” in which approximately 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes occur.  While this is a significant earthquake, it is not uncommon in Papua New Guinea, or in this “Ring of Fire” zone.
